Down The TBR Hole #3
Down the TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopsis of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
Last time, I again started with 219 books and ended with 217. I'm already back at 220 now, so this will never work unless I take more than five books at the time. Which is exactly what I'm going to try today, with ten!
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
I've wanted to read this book for a long time, but I want to buy it and then read my own physical copy. Buying it always gets postponed in favour of newer releases though, so it hasn't happened yet. It will, once, I'm sure!
Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver
This is the second book in the Delirium trilogy. I own them all and have read the first one a long time ago. I remember not much, apart from the catchphrase and that all the talk about love made me miss my boyfriend, so I didn't continue them at the time. As I have physical copies at home, I will try this book sooner or later (probably later), and if they don't work I'll leave them be, and maybe unhaul them.
Requiem by Lauren Oliver
Requiem's fate is in the hands of Pandemonium and if I like that or not. If I DNF or can't be bothered with it anymore I'll leave this one, but since I don't know that yet, it'll stay for now
Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
Definitely still on my TBR! I'm pretty excited about TDA and have owned a copy of this for almost a year already. Because it had been so long since I'd read the Shadowhunters and TID I didn't want to pick this up yet and wanted to wait until I had time for a reread. Time to reread nine books, however, is pretty lacking. I might check Recaptains for the previous series and start this one after.
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
A pretty well-known and hyped book, and my sister owns it. However, I'm not that inclined to read it, so I feel like I can remove it from my tbr. If I'd ever be inclined, I can always pick it up again because it will be here.
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
Unpopular opinion time: I really don't care for this series. I bought this book ages ago and never picked it up. Since then, I've heard the series started out great but couldn't keep it up, is super undiverse and has its share of problematicness. The copy I have is also currently lent to a friend (I think?) and I honestly don't even care anymore and don't need it back.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
I think I'm going to let this one go, guys. I still want to read it, someday, but have no plans to actually make that happen anytime soon. As a well-known classic, it's highly unlikely I'll forget about its existence, so this will be on my mental "maybe once" shelf.
Horseradish: Bitter Truths You Can't Avoid by Lemony Snicket
I added this a long time ago when I decided I wanted to read a Snicket book. Why I didn't just go for the first of A Series of Unfortunate Events, I have no idea. However, I actually don't want to read either of these books (anymore), especially not this one that only contains snippets and doesn't have an actual story.
The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling
As a huge Harry Potter fan, I added this book immediately when I saw it was written by JK Rowling. To be honest, I actually wasn't (and am still not) that interested in this story, and with what I've heard, it might be best to just leave JK Rowlings writing to Harry Potter and pass on all the other options.
The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
A diverse YA fantasy that most people loved and I recently bought the ebook from? It doesn't get any clearer than that. (And maybe I'll even get to this soon(ish), who knows!)
Amount of books deleted: 5
Amount of books still on TBR: 215
I'm pretty impressed I managed to eliminate half of the books I looked at! Now if I could only find a way to also actually read all the books that I left on my tbr... But that's the next problem, so, for now, I'll just ignore that and continue to be glad about what I achieved. 😂🙈
