Down the TBR Hole
Down the TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
It works like this:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopsis of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
I saw this for the first time in September over at A Bookish Bi. It looked like so much fun, and since I'm failing to keep my TBR contained I thought I'd try this as well. For now, I have 219 books (not counting the 40+ books I want to read but aren't released yet, as those are on another list) so we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck!
Uprooted by Naomi Novik
This was one of the first books I ever added to my Goodreads TBR. Back then I had the intention to read it for the 2016 Popsugar Reading Challenge, and then I didn't. I still really want to read it though! Magic, fairy tales, a gorgeous cover... Maybe I should buy it since I have no idea how else I can get a copy.
The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle #1) by Patrick Rothfuss
Within fantasy, everybody and their mother has heard of this book, and most of the people who dared to pick it up absolutely love it. I wish I could say I tried, but I didn't, really. I borrowed it from a friend and it stood on my shelves for months until I gave it back. Maybe it's just not for me since I have not felt inclined to pick it up or start it, and after all this time, I feel like I can let it go. If I ever change my mind, I can always add it back.
Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon
At one point it was my intention to buy this, but that time has passed without me actually buying it. I still think it would be interesting, but maybe to skim through if it ever falls in my lap.
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
This book might even be in English in the library, and I'm definitely going to try to get my hands on it. I'm so interested in hearing what Maya Angelou has to say, to read her writing and hear her voice.
I think I put this on my TBR because I wanted to read the famous poem "And Still I Rise," not realising that a) I could do that online and b) this is a poetry collection. Now that I do know both things, I do still want to read this, actually. I've been trying to get into poetry more, and I'd like to own more poetry as well.
Amount of books deleted: 2
Amount of books still on TBR: 217
My guess is that by next week when I will do this again, I will have added other books already so my TBR count will never actually go down. But we'll see!
